Dental bridges are a restorative dental procedure used to replace one or more missing teeth. A bridge is made up of two or more crowns that are placed on the teeth on either side of the gap, with a false tooth or teeth in between. The bridge is then cemented in place to provide a stable and durable restoration that looks and functions like natural teeth.
The process of getting a dental bridge usually takes two or three appointments. During the first appointment, the abutment teeth (the teeth on either side of the gap) are prepared for crowns by removing a small portion of the enamel. Impressions of the teeth are then taken, which are used to create the bridge in a dental laboratory. In the meantime, a temporary bridge is placed to protect the exposed teeth and gums.
At the second appointment, the temporary bridge is removed, and the permanent bridge is placed and adjusted for fit and bite. The dentist may make additional adjustments to ensure the bridge feels comfortable and natural. With proper oral hygiene and regular dental checkups, dental bridges can last for many years.
